World Food Day 2026: Lagos State Mobilises 57 Local Government Councils for Food Security

IKEJA, LAGOS — October 15, 2026

Lagos State commemorated World Food Day 2026 at the Police College, Ikeja, under the theme “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” with representatives of all 57 Local Government Councils in attendance.

The event highlighted the strategic role of Local Government Councils in advancing food security, promoting sustainable agriculture and improving nutrition through grassroots initiatives.

Given their proximity to the people, the councils are well-positioned to support local food production, encourage community farming, promote healthy eating and create awareness about food preservation and waste reduction.

The theme emphasised the need for innovative, community-driven solutions and stronger collaboration between local governments, agricultural stakeholders and other relevant institutions to ensure improved access to safe, affordable and nutritious food.

The participation of all 57 councils underscored the importance of coordinated grassroots action in achieving Lagos State’s food security objectives.

As key drivers of grassroots development, Local Government Councils are encouraged to translate the message of World Food Day into practical initiatives that empower local food producers, support vulnerable households and strengthen community food systems. Through innovation, collaboration and sustained commitment, the councils can contribute significantly to building a healthier, more resilient and food-secure Lagos State.
