Lagos Mainland Local Government has graduated participants of its Free Make-Up Skills Acquisition Programme, marking the successful completion of a month-long initiative designed to equip women, youths and aspiring entrepreneurs with practical skills for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

The programme, facilitated through the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department of the Local Government, reflects the administration’s commitment to providing residents with opportunities to acquire relevant skills, improve their livelihoods and become economically productive.

The Executive Chairman, Hon. Mayor (Dr.) Jubril Kolawole Emilagba, commended the participants for their dedication, commitment and willingness to acquire a skill capable of providing them with a sustainable source of livelihood.

The programme, which commenced on August 10 and concluded on September 10, 2026, was held at Ijero Baptist Primary School, 31 Abule-Nla Road, Ebute-Metta (West), Lagos. Participants received hands-on training in professional make-up application, including bridal, glam and everyday make-up, skincare and skin preparation, eyebrow and eyelash enhancement, product knowledge and personal branding.

As part of the administration’s commitment to ensuring that the training translates into tangible economic opportunities, the Lagos Mainland Local Government, in conjunction with the Chairperson, empowered the graduating participants with make-up sets, enabling them to commence or expand their businesses and put their newly acquired skills into practice.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chairman noted that the programme was not merely about learning a skill, but about providing residents with the knowledge, tools and confidence required to become self-reliant, create opportunities for themselves and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The successful implementation of the programme was also made possible through the initiative and personal commitment of the Chairperson, Alhaja Monsurat Adenike, whose efforts and support played a significant role in bringing the skills acquisition programme to fruition.

Lagos Mainland Local Government remains committed to investing in its people and creating more opportunities for residents to acquire relevant skills, become economically empowered and contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous community.
