The Oyingbo Men and Women Association, in conjunction with the Oyingbo Foodstuff Market Traders Association, has officially commissioned newly installed solar-powered lights at the Oyingbo Ultra-Modern Market, in a significant step towards improving security, extending trading hours and creating a safer and more conducive environment for traders, customers and residents.
The project was officially commissioned on Tuesday, 18th August 2026, at the Oyingbo Ultra-Modern Market Plaza by the Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Hon. Mayor (Dr.) Jubril Kolawole Emilagba.
The solar lighting project is designed to improve visibility within and around the market, particularly during the evening hours, while reducing dependence on conventional electricity and associated power costs. The initiative is also expected to encourage night trading and strengthen security within the market environment.
Mayor Emilagba reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to supporting infrastructure that promotes security, commerce, sustainability and the welfare of traders across Lagos Mainland Local Government. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, market associations and community stakeholders in achieving sustainable grassroots development.
In her remarks, the Iyaloja of Oja Oyingbo Market, Alhaja Olateju Ramota Muhammed, commended the Executive Chairman for his continued support towards market development. She described the solar lighting project as a landmark achievement that would positively impact traders and customers, particularly those who conduct business during the evening.
The market association expressed appreciation to all individuals and stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible, while reaffirming their commitment to working closely with the government towards further development of Oyingbo Market.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Vice-Chairman, Lagos Mainland Local Government, Hon. Adewale Moshood Momoh; Council Manager, Mr. Ojikutu M. Olufemi; Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zemba; Chief of Staff, Hon. Raheem Babatunde; Ward Councillors; Special Advisers; Supervisors; and other government officials and community stakeholders.
Also present were representatives of Oyingbo Market, including Alhaja Balikisi Balogun (Iyaloja Vice), Ademola Oduyemi (PRO), Onigemo Muyideen (Secretary), Tajudeen Agoro (Head of Task Force), Abosede Adeola (Yeye Oge), Akingbade Jones (Youth Leader), Temilola Akinlowo (Majero Obinrin), Isiaka Olowu (Majero Okunrin), Adetoyinbo Lukman (Balogun Okunrin), Okwu Emmanuel (Exco Member) and other members of the market community.
The commissioning marks another important milestone in the collective efforts to transform Oyingbo Ultra-Modern Market into a safer, more vibrant and business-friendly environment for traders and the wider community.
