The Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mayor (Dr.) Emilagba Kolawole Jubril, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparent, responsive and people centred governance during a media parley with journalists from about 18 media organisations.

The interactive session provided an opportunity for the media to engage the Chairman on the administration’s programmes, activities, achievements and future development plans over the past year. Representatives from Newspoint, Newsconnect, Clip TV, IJoba Ibile TV, Bonds FM, 5Tees Info,,The Nation, Rainbow Tv among others, were present at the engagement.
The media parley was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Council and the media, promoting accountability and ensuring that residents of Lagos Mainland remain adequately informed about government programmes and initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Emilagba said his administration assumed office with a clear vision to improve the quality of life of residents through inclusive governance, sustainable development, empowerment and responsive service delivery.
Within its first year, the administration has recorded achievements across several sectors, with particular emphasis on healthcare, human capital development, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, security and social welfare.
Under youth empowerment and education, the Chairman disclosed that the Council is sponsoring eight youths from Lagos Mainland at the Osun State College of Technology, Osogbo, for one year, providing them with an opportunity to acquire relevant technical and professional skills that can improve their future employment and entrepreneurial prospects.
The Council has equally sustained its commitment to community empowerment, providing support and equipment to residents to strengthen their livelihoods and promote economic self-reliance.
The Chairman further announced plans for a Women’s Summit in September 2026, which will provide a platform for women across Lagos Mainland to engage, network, acquire knowledge and discuss issues affecting their social and economic advancement.
MORE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE
Speaking on the administration’s plans for the coming months, Mayor Emilagba disclosed a number of projects and initiatives aimed at further improving infrastructure and the quality of life of residents.
Among the projects in the pipeline is the construction of the Oroku Stadia around the ICT Centre, which is expected to provide an improved recreational and sporting facility for residents, particularly young people.
The Chairman also announced plans for the installation of solar-powered lighting at the ICT Centre in October, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and improved security within the facility and its surroundings.
Another major infrastructure project is the groundbreaking of Kadara Road around Ebute Metta East, which is expected to improve accessibility and ease movement for residents and motorists in the area.
The administration is also set to commence work on the drainage project from Freeman Street to Abeokuta Street, an intervention designed to improve drainage infrastructure and contribute to efforts to address flooding and improve environmental conditions within the affected communities.
A major institutional project announced by the Chairman is the construction of a new three-storey Council Secretariat building, equipped with elevators and powered by solar energy. The project is expected to provide a more modern and functional working environment for Council personnel while incorporating sustainable energy solutions.
In another intervention targeted at improving community security operations, the Council will distribute freezers and air conditioners to the Okobaba Security Station, providing improved working conditions for security personnel and supporting effective service delivery.
These projects, according to the Chairman, are part of the administration’s broader vision of transforming Lagos Mainland through strategic investments in infrastructure, human capital, social development and sustainable solutions.
Mayor Emilagba stressed that the achievements and ongoing projects of his administration are consistent with the broader objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the focus on improving citizens’ welfare, creating opportunities, strengthening infrastructure and promoting inclusive economic development.
He noted that the Council would continue to translate these broader development objectives into practical interventions that directly impact the lives of residents at the grassroots.
The Chairman commended the media for its continued partnership with the Council and urged journalists to remain objective, professional and constructive in reporting government activities, noting that effective communication is essential to building public trust.
The participating media organisations, in their separate contributions, appreciated the Chairman for creating an avenue for direct engagement and for providing an opportunity to discuss both the achievements and future plans of his administration.
The media parley ended with a renewed commitment by the Lagos Mainland Local Government and the media to sustain open communication, responsible reportage and constructive engagement in keeping residents informed about government activities.
